The glitzy and spectacular event brought to light the exceptional talent and dedication of the nation’s athletes in dance sport, with athletes coming from across South Africa. KwaMakhutha ballroom dancer Simphiwe Cele and his partner, Kekeletso Makhetha, scooped first place in the Pro Adult category and walked away with gold medals.

“Even though the competition was difficult, we are very excited about our win,” said Simphiwe.

In a statement, the Federation of Dance Sports South Africa said the event was not just a contest but a celebration of talent and the relentless drive for excellence, setting a high bar for aspiring dancers and athletes everywhere.

“As we applaud the efforts that made the National Champions League 1 a resounding success, we eagerly await the next chapter in Johannesburg, ready to support and celebrate our young athletes and dancers as they continue to shine and inspire. Their performances captivate and lead the way, highlighting the vast potential within South Africa’s youth,” it said.

In October, Simphiwe and Kekeletso will represent South Africa at the WSDF World Championship Standard Adult in Germany. Before the overseas trip, the two are to compete in the League Dance Championships in Johannesburg in June, Cape Town in August, and Limpopo just before they leave in October.
