With discarded waste becoming a common sight in rivers, lagoons and verges around Amanzimtoti, municipal authorities emphasise the critical need for community cooperation. In a statement, the municipality said residents are urged to follow proper waste management practices. They should also make use of the municipal garden sites for garden refuse.

“These [practices] include taking out refuse on the morning of the scheduled collection day and avoiding illegal dumping and littering,” it said.

The municipality said failure to comply not only exacerbates sanitation challenges but also poses environmental and health risks. As the City grapples with an uptick in refuse-related complaints, officials underscore the importance of collective responsibility in maintaining a clean and healthy urban landscape.
