Twini Primary learners entertain elderly with concert

Learners got to connect with elderly members of the community and spread happiness through music and performance.

A FUN-FILLED morning with heartwarming moments was recently held at Umbogintwini Primary School as staff invited senior citizens in the area to watch the first performance of the school’s junior primary concert.

The school’s Bernadette Fernandez, who is in charge of the concert, said the event, which had guests from Poinsettia Park and Elders Voice, was a special part of its ‘citizenship’ pillar of character.

“It highlights our commitment to community engagement and inclusivity,” she said, adding that it was a joy to see the learners connect with the elderly members of the community and spread happiness through music and performance.

Each grade focused on a different movie theme: Grade R was Happy Feet; Grade One was The Little Mermaid; Grade Two was The Jungle Book and Grade Three was The Lion King.

Jo-ann Herbst of Elders Voice KZN thanked the school and said she absolutely loves it when schools host inter-generational programmes and involve the elderly.
