MEC inaugurates cattle-breeding programme in Umbumbulu
The farming programme entails using Brahman bulls to breed with cows to produce quality meat for communal farmers to make substantial profits.
KWAZULU-Natal MEC for Agriculture and Rural Development, Super Zuma, visited uMbumbulu to inaugurate a farming programme for communal farmers on May 17.
This included a handing over of Brahman bulls which will aid in the genetic improvement of the herds as the red-meat market requires that farmers produce quality meat to make substantial profits. Zuma said even small-scale farmers need to be in the loop about the new farming trends and to continue educating themselves and sharing ideas.

“We have implemented this project in other areas of the province, and today, we are here in the eThekwini Metro. These bulls will be used communally to service the cows to ensure offspring that will start generations that can produce superior beef as wanted by the markets,” said Zuma.
With the resurgence of foot-and-mouth disease in rural areas, Zuma was in the area to spread awareness and encourage farmers to vaccinate their livestock. While in the area, he visited communal projects, including the Obivane cattle dip opening and a broiler chicken project under Hamashe Farming.
