Sassa grant recipients: Open bank accounts at the Civic Centre

Sassa grant recipients are urged to go to the Amanzimtoti Civic Centre on March 5 to open a bank account to avoid the need to upgrade cards.

WITH the deadline for the changeover from the gold Sassa card to the black card fast approaching on March 20, assistance will be provided to residents in Amanzimtoti to open bank accounts to avoid any future challenges.

Ward 97 councillor, André Beetge, said that in a concerted effort to alleviate the need to constantly upgrade cards, Nedbank and ABSA Bank will be assisting residents in opening bank accounts in the Toti Civic Centre on March 5 from 09:00 until 13:00.

“The problem is not currently a Sassa one, but a problem with Sassa service provider Postbank, as they have got challenges currently. If you are receiving your Sassa grants into your bank accounts, there is no problem there. What we now want to do is give people who are still using Sassa cards the opportunity to change over to bank accounts. Pensioners in the area, and any other recipients of grants are encouraged to come to the Civic Centre,” said Beetge.

He reiterated that those on the gold Sassa card need to change over to either the black Sassa card or move over to bank accounts.

“You will need to bring your ID and proof of address, as well as your Sassa card. The verification will be done at the Civic Centre,” said Beetge.
