Severe thunderstorms expected this weekend
Residents and motorists are urged to exercise caution tomorrow (November 15) due to a South African Weather Service thunderstorm alert.
RESIDENTS along the South Coast and inland areas of KZN are urged to exercise caution and stay safe, as the South African Weather Services (SAWS) issued a Level 2 severe thunderstorm alert for KZN.

Heavy downpours, damaging winds, excessive lightning and hail are expected tomorrow (November 15). The warning is valid from about 10:00 until 23:59.
“A surface trough over the interior, a ridging high behind a cold front and a broad upper air trough over the central interior will result in widespread showers and thundershowers over KZN. Some of these are expected to become severe along the coast,” read the warning.
Impacts include:
- Localised damage to infrastructure and settlements.
- Localised flooding of susceptible roads and bridges.
- Minor motor vehicle accidents due to slippery roads and poor visibility.
- Difficult driving conditions on dirt and slippery roads.
- Large amounts of small and large hail over an open area.
The areas affected include eThekwini, Hlabisa, Hluhluwe, KwaDakuza, Mandeni, Maphumulo, Mkhambathini, Umdoni, Ray Nkonyeni, Umhlabuyalinkgana, uMhlathuze, uMlalazi and Umzumbe. A level four warning for severe thunderstorms is valid for areas inland including Underberg, Mooi River, Ladysmith, Newcastle, Richmond.
