Beware Black Friday scammers in Isipingo

Isipingo police urges shoppers to be wary of common scams popping up in the area's central business district.

BLACK Friday may be a staple of the year for both shoppers and business owners, however Isipingo police spokesperson Constable Donald Naidoo warns that fraudsters and criminals have already begun their under-handed tricks in the Isipingo central business district.

“As we close in on Black Friday, it is vital that community members are aware criminals constantly refine their methods, and the scams consumers face today are far more convincing. Constant vigilance is so important,” said Naidoo.

He confirmed that several cases had been reported from the Isipingo Business Centre. The modus operandi for one such scam entails a person dropping a large amount of cash on the floor, enticing unknowing observers to pick it up.

“When victim picks up the cash, which is fake, a scammer also approaches the cash and asks that the victim share the money with them. They both walk away with the cash only to be approached by other scammers who claim to be police officers. Both are taken and the victim is robbed and sometimes raped,” said Naidoo.

Isipingo police is urging patrons not to fall victims to these tactics. If  uncertain, visit the Isipingo police station for assistance or report it by contacting 0800 10111. Alternatively, contact Lieutenant Colonel Derrick Cyril Cain on 079 500 0486 or Constable Donald Naidoo on 082 411 6351.
