Just in: Man dies after medical emergency at Pipeline Pool

Despite prolonged and sustained resuscitation efforts by lifeguards and paramedics, the man was pronounced deceased at the scene.

A 48-year-old man was declared deceased by paramedics following a medical emergency at Pipeline Pool in Amanzimtoti on Thursday afternoon (January 2).

The incident occurred at about 14:23 shortly after the man entered the pool. According to information available, the man, who had a known history of acute seizures, suffered a seizure within about one minute of entering the water.

Ward 97 councillor André Beetge confirmed that lifeguards on duty responded immediately and initiated cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).

“Netcare paramedics were dispatched from Kingsway Hospital and arrived shortly thereafter, where they took over advanced life-support measures,” Beetge said.

Despite prolonged and sustained resuscitation efforts by lifeguards and paramedics, the man was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The incident occurred in the presence of the man’s spouse. No further incidents were reported at the site following the event.
