Amanzimtoti model gracefully wins KZN pageant

Amanzimtoti teen Grace Turner recently took the crown at Miss Teen Universe South Africa, making new friends and having fun along the way.

A STRING of third place finishes did little to deter one of Amanzimtoti’s shining stars, Grace Turner, whose resilience and dreams of pageantry saw her gracefully achieve the title of Miss Teen Universe KZN on March 28.

Before donning the tiara, she was named second princess in Miss North Coast KZN 2024, Miss Teen Umhlanga 2025 and Miss North Coast KZN 2025.

“I thought about giving up so many times, but the dream of pageantry never died. My experience during the pageant was amazing. I met wonderful people and created amazing friendships. We got to walk down to the beach, wear gorgeous outfits and have so much fun,” said Grace.

She explained that she has always loved the idea of being on stage in a dress because when she was little, she was labelled a “Tom boy,” and wanted to move beyond that label.

“Now, my passion and drive for it is love and knowing that one day, I will make my little self as well as my late grandmother, Glynis Mcgee, proud knowing that an international title belongs to me,” said Grace.

Outside of pageantry, Grace is a passionate dancer. She loves cooking and baking, often baking to relieve stress. She enjoys spending time with her friends, going out, getting ice cream and simply chatting.

Teddies and Tiaras initiative

In honour of her grandmother, who her family and friends affectionately call “Gigi,” Grace is launching an initiative called Teddies and Tiaras, which she hopes will bring hope and joy to children who are sick in hospitals.

“When Gigi got sick, I spent countless hours in the hospital and saw how it affected my family and her. I noticed the amount of children coming in and out of hospital and how lonely they must feel,” she said.

The initiative involves Grace and her fellow pageant sisters visiting children’s hospitals to uplift and support the kids as well as putting together care packages with things like teddies, toys, and little treats, spending time with them doing fun activities, playing games, and bringing some joy and comfort.
