Lieutenant Colonel Paul Magwaza, from the office of the provincial commissioner, said that the suspects, aged between 22 and 41, were arrested for dealing in drugs.
“The operation was conducted by the Provincial Organised Crime Narcotics and Organised Crime Threat Unit, which followed intelligence about a suspect who was suspected to be dealing in cannabis out of four of his shops,” said Magwaza.
On March 19, the team executed the search warrant simultaneously on all the targeted premises, and the main suspect was arrested at a different location before being taken to his home in Yellowwood Park, where yet more cannabis was recovered.
The street value of the recovered cannabis is estimated to be around R1.3m.
All the arrested suspects were charged for dealing in drugs and appeared at the Durban Magistrate’s Court on March 20.
