Mayor inspects service delivery in Ward 94

The Emasomini pedestrian bridge is 80% complete, and five roads have been upgraded from gravel to blacktop in the area.

ON FRIDAY, February 10, eThekwini Municipality’s mayor Mxolisi Kaunda visited KwaMakhutha, Nsimbini and Folweni to assess the progress that has been made to address service-delivery challenges in both areas. All three areas are next to each other and fall under Ward 94.

The office of the mayor said this was part of the Operation Sukuma Sakhe (OSS) programme, which is a provincial call to all residents to be proactive in bettering their communities. Kaunda said Friday’s stopover follows an initial oversight visit he made to these areas when he assumed office in 2019.

“When we visited the zone in 2019, residents complained about challenges, such as the lack of a pedestrian bridge in Masomini and the state of the roads and the houses that were damaged by the floods in 2010. I am happy to report that the Emasomini pedestrian bridge is 80% complete, and five roads have been upgraded from gravel to blacktop,” he said.

Kaunda added that said since his last visit, 15 storm-damaged houses have been rebuilt, and more than 60 identity document cases and 16 late registration of birth cases have been resolved.

The office of the mayor said the OSS mayoral outreach programme will be undertaken on the second and last Friday of every month and will see members of the executive committee visiting at least 12 wards per month.
