Browse through Kingsburgh Welfare’s charity shop

Any donations of non-perishable food or household items can be dropped off at their charity shop located at 2 Hall Road in Warner Beach.

THE Kingsburgh Child and Family Welfare encourages the community to support families in need by purchasing or donating household goods at their charity shop.

All donations of household goods and clothing given to the non-profit organisation are separated into two boxes, one to give away and one to keep.

They are a welfare agency before a charity shop, so dedicated volunteers sift through the goods, looking for items that are requested from the vulnerable families they serve. Thereafter, whatever they have left is laid out in the shop for the public to browse through and buy.

The shop acts as an income-generating project, as proceeds allow them to buy food for families as well as pay for their running costs. It is also two-fold as it creates employment for those who buy and resell.

Most of their items, such as clothing, decorative pieces, jewellery, glasses, toys, books and school clothes range from R10 to R50.

The welfare’s social worker, Sandra Govender, said she wants to create a culture of giving, not hoarding. “If something in your house hasn’t been worn or used in a few years, it’s probably not going to be. So why not donate it to someone who may need it? This can also be an opportunity to teach your children the importance of giving. Any contribution, no matter how small, can make a difference,” she said.

She reminds the community that although they are able to repair some items, such as clothing, it is important to show a bit of respect for mankind and donate items that are still in usable condition.

The welfare office and charity shop is open on weekdays (except Wednesdays) between 08:00 and 12:00. The address is 2 Hall Road, Warner Beach.
