Dolphins School of Excellence enhances women’s cricket

Round 3 takes place tomorrow while the final takes place on March 11 at Hollywoodbets Kingsmead stadium.

THE Dolphins School of Excellence (DSE) league is a high-performance event which was started in 2021 to bridge the gap between club and senior provincial cricket.

The women selected for the DSE Women’s Series are players who represented the province in their respective age groups at the CSA (Cricket South Africa) National Weeks in 2022 (U16 and U19 girls), four top performers of the U13 age group who represented the province at a regional week in 2022, the senior women’s squad players of the 2022/2023 season, and the top performers at club level.

Amanzimtoti Cricket Club congratulates three of its members for their inclusion in the series. Megan Powell was selected for the Tryon Terminators, and Alayah Ramnath and Kaylee Stadler for the Ismail Invaders.

On Saturday, February 25, round 2 was hosted at the Amanzimtoti Sports Centre. The series consists of a 50-over and T20 format. There will be a winner for each format, but the points will be combined to get the overall winner.

Chetty Champ’s Khethiwe Mkhulise bats the ball.

Hollywoodbets Dolphins ladies’ head coach, Angelique Taai, said the match between Chetty Champs and Tryon Terminators finished early, just before the rain came down. Tryon Terminators won by 2 wickets. However, the Mlaba Masters and Ismail Invaders had a stop-start match which was decided by net run rate at the end. This resulted in Ismail Invaders coming out on top.

“The series is going well so far, with good and healthy competition being showcased. As the head coach, I would just like to see more batters get half-centuries as well as centuries and teams scoring 180+. It would also be a plus if we can have all the teams batting out their allotted 50 overs in every game. We are blessed with many quality bowlers in our province; we just need to lift the standard from a batting perspective,” she said.

Tryon Terminators lead the DSE Women’s Series.

Tryon Terminators are top of the log standings with seven points, Chetty Champs second with five points, Ismail Invaders third with four points and Mlaba Masters fourth with two points.

Round 3 takes place on Saturday, March 4, at 10:00. The 50-over game sees Tryon Terminators take on Ismail Invaders on Toti 1 and Chetty Champs take on Mlaba Masters on Toti 2.

The final and play-offs will be on March 11 at Hollywoodbets Kingsmead stadium and the Kingsmead Oval respectively.
