Mixed bag of results for Amanzimtoti cricketers

Amanzimtoti Cricket Club brought home two wins, one tie and two losses during various games played over the weekend.

THE Amanzimtoti Cricket Club’s (ACC) Ladies’ first, second and Vets’ teams scored a mixed bag of results during matches played on October 14 and 15.

ACC’s Ladies’ team played two T20 matches on October 15, hosting Delta Cricket Club in the morning and Fam Kwama Cricket Club in the afternoon. In the first match, Toti batted first and scored 99/6 in their 20 overs. Nirvasha Ramnath was the stand-out batter for the local side, scoring 28 runs. Set 100 runs to win, Delta reached their target in the 18th over for the loss of 5 wickets. Delta Ladies won by 5 wickets.

The afternoon match saw Toti field first, and they bowled Fam Kwama out in the 16th over for 53 runs. Lezaan Gerber (3/5) and Megan Powell (3/20) were the pick of the Toti bowlers. The hosts knocked off the 54 runs needed to win in 8 overs with just the loss of Nirvasha Ramnath (25), Aleshia Moll (11*) and Kaylee Stadler (14*) which guided the hosts across the line. Toti won by 9 wickets.

ACC’s first team travelled to the Bluff on October 15, to play Harlequins’ first team in the last of the KZN Castle Premier T20 League pool matches. Harlequins won the toss and elected to bowl first on a low and slow wicket. The home side had Toti on the back foot early, taking three wickets before Toti had reached 30 runs. But a fighting half-century from Dillon Bryan (51*) with support from Corne Nel (20) and Dylan Labuschagne (11*) got the Toti team to 118/5 in their 20 overs.

Chasing 119 to win, Harlequins lost 2 wickets early – a run-out, then a brilliant catch from wicket-keeper Bryan off Luc Jacobs. Harlequins consolidated then accelerated and reached the required target in the 17th over and won by 8 wickets. The loss for the Toti side meant they ended in third spot in Pool B, outside a semi-final position.

ACC’s second team hosted Delta Cricket Club’s second side on October 15 in a 30 overs per side match. Delta won the toss and batted first, scoring 208/3 in their 30 overs. In reply, Toti got off to an excellent start with Stephan Hennop (86) and Ashley van Zyl (34) scoring the bulk of the home team’s runs. With the score on 175/6 after 25.2 overs, the players came off because of bad light. The result of the match was determined on run rate, and with the hosts on the same run rate as Delta’s innings, the result was a tie.

ACC’s Veterans team hosted Chatsworth United Cricket Club’s Veterans team on October 14, at the Toti Oval in a KZN Castle Veterans A T20 pool match. ACC’s skipper Marc Sheppard won the toss and elected to bowl first. The home side restricted Chatsworth United to 121/8 in 20 overs with two wickets apiece for Sheppard, Hendrik Nienaber and Leon van der Westhuizen.

Three early wickets for Chatsworth United had the home side in a spot of bother, but the innings was steadied by Graham Heine (18) and a 77-run partnership between the skipper and Derick Snyman. Sheppard (57*) and Snyman (12*) saw the home team over the line in the 14th over. ACC’s Veterans team won by 6 wickets. This win secured them a place in the semi-finals this weekend.
