Athlone Park Primary hosts fun-filled, competitive gala

The young swimmers competed for their school houses to win, and the top swimmers from each age group competed against each other.

ATHLONE Park Primary School’s recent inter-house and individual championship gala was full of excellent team spirit and competitive races.

The event, organised by the departmental head of sport, Mark Cowie, and swimming coach, Stacey Hooper, is an annual event that takes place during term one.

The school’s Jessica Hill said the gala gives swimmers an opportunity to showcase their progress and compete for the title of ‘winning house’.

“Our swimmers, from Grades 4 to 7, had a fantastic day, with many records broken and excellent support from the parents,” she said.

The learners from each house (Kestrel, Falcon and Eagle) participated in all four strokes. After each segment, medals for the top three learners in each race were awarded, along with trophies at the end of the event.

Hill said Eagle was the winning house for 2024, and Falcon was awarded the spirit trophy.

“The individual championship gala is incorporated into our inter-house gala. This portion of the gala is where our top swimmers from each age group compete against each other,” she said.

The U13 Boy Champion was Kameel Bidasee, and the U13 Girl Champion was shared by Ally Holmes and Lilly Cohen.
