Kingsway High raises R10 000 for Khanya Hospice

Dozens of learners and staff at Kingsway High School played a part in raising a substantial amount for Khanya Hospice by hosting a sports day.

KINGSWAY High School recently held a sports day to support Khanya Hospice, and raised R10 000 which was donated to the hospice on October 30.

Neil McDonald, the CEO of Khanya Hospice, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the learners and staff for their long-standing support.

“A big shoutout to them all. We greatly appreciate it,” he said.

As a non-governmental organisation, hospice relies on the generosity of the community to sustain its operations.

McDonald said, “Our services are for free, but it is not free for us to provide. We have to buy whatever we need and use for patients in our palliative nursing care programme.”

In honour of ‘Movember’, McDonald is challenging men to grow their beards and moustaches throughout the month and then celebrate by hosting a get together with friends and family.

“During this gathering, men are encouraged to raise funds for hospice, similar to how women supported Breast Cancer Month in October,” he said.

McDonald also stresses the importance of men’s health, urging men to schedule prostate and testicular cancer screenings.
