South Coast’s water supply shut until further notice

Residents on the South Coast are requested to reduce water consumption to allow reservoirs to recover. Some areas are already experiencing supply challenges.

WATER supply to all wards south of Umlazi to Pennington that are supplied from Umlazi through the South Coast Augmentation (SCA) pipeline has been switched off as a precautionary measure to protect infrastructure.

Councillor André Beetge said the SCA had to be switched off at 11:00 today (February 7) to protect the pumps due to a drastic drop in the Wiggins Water Treatment Works’ supply levels.

“While there is still a limited supply in the reservoirs, some areas might already be experiencing supply challenges, with more to follow as the local supply gets depleted,” he said.

He added that updates regarding the situation will be supplied as received.
