On March 29, 2024, the woman and her two young children visited the accused at his home. During the visit, an argument broke out after the accused confronted her on suspicion of infidelity. He assaulted her, then stabbed her with a screwdriver and a kitchen knife. The accused then poured boiling water over her body, all in full view of her children. The man fled the scene, leaving the children with their dying mother. He was arrested days later in Umkomaas.

National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Natasha Ramkisson-Kara said prosecutor Thanusha Govender presented compelling evidence, including testimony from a police officer who attended the crime scene, and one of the children who witnessed the attack.
“The doctor who conducted the postmortem also testified. The report showed the deceased suffered severe burns and approximately 80% brain damage due to the attack,” said Ramkisson-Kara.
In addition to the life sentence, the court declared the perpetrator unfit to possess a firearm.
