eThekwini Municipality sent out a public notice today (September 15) to inform residents and businesses of the planned interruption of the water supply. The interruption will affect the supply of water to areas supplied through the Athlone Park Reservoir and Elevated Tank, including Athlone Park, Galleria Mall, Arbour Crossing and Netcare Kingsway Hospital.

The city explained in the notice that the interruption is necessary to undertake emergency high pressure cleaning on one of the tanks affecting the operation of the high-level pumps. The emergency work will include the repairs and maintenance of the submersible pumps supplying Athlone Park Elevated Tank.

This work is expected to be completed on September 18 at 07:30 and thereafter, the reservoir will start to fill. Water quality samples will then be taken to be analysed to ensure compliance before the reservoir outlet is reopened for consumption.
