Gail Elson, marketing manager of iCare, explained that the centre will serve as a homework hub, a community centre and a well-equipped computer room, providing children with a safe and vibrant space to learn, grow and thrive.

The centre was named after Gerty Henderson, who dedicated many years to iCare and forged lasting friendships along the way as she tirelessly committed to the NPO.

“A large portion of the building was generously funded by the Victor Daitz Foundation, with additional support from Roy and Carol Bagattini, in memory of their beloved mother, Gerty. Their contributions have ensured that her legacy continues to benefit generations of children at iCare,” said Elson.

She added that the centre will provide a space of hope, learning and community for the children of Lower Illovo, and expressed deep gratitude to all who made it a reality.
