The farewell event attended by the school’s learners, teachers, past teachers, members of the school’s governing body, and officials from the Department of Education featured special goodbye messages by all the grades, delivered in song, dance, and acting. Moodley was also the school’s acting deputy principal. Delivering his address, he said he recently turned 60 and decided it was time for him to retire.
“It is indeed a sad day for me as I bid farewell to you, my dear boys and girls. Teaching has not only been my job, but my passion over these many years. When you are driven by passion, you enjoy what you do, and I have enjoyed every moment of being an educator,” said Moodley.
During a later address to the teachers, he shared words of wisdom and guiding principles that made him a successful teacher. He stressed that as teachers, they are laying a foundation in the young learners that will determine how strong they are in the coming years as they grow older.
“Not all learners are the same, so avoid rushing through the syllabus, but rather teach for understanding,” he said.

The school’s principal, Kamal Singh, said that over the decades, working alongside Moodley, they shared a close brotherhood that went beyond working hours. In an official statement, the school said Moodley’s commitment to education, leadership, and the pursuit of mathematical excellence has left an indelible mark on generations of learners and colleagues alike.
“He will be deeply missed for his wisdom, warmth, and unwavering dedication to the Kamalinee family,” it said.
