The three-day camp ran from December 5 to 7, and hosted Grade 10 and 11 boys from KZN and the Free State. In a statement, the Department of Sport, Arts, and Culture said December is Reconciliation Month and this year’s theme is “Reaffirming reconciliation for future generations”.

“The learners took part in targeted activities and discussions that are aimed at helping them identify their strengths, values, and goals. These activities will equip them with life skills that support personal development, mental health, and overall well-being while empowering them to contribute positively to society for future generations to come,” it said.

The learners also took part in workshops, mentorship circles, and activities focused on personal growth, healthy relationships, emotional intelligence, self-confidence, career planning, and leadership development. They also heard first-hand stories from other young people who have gone through drug addiction, telling them not to fall into the same trap.

Department of Sport, Arts, and Culture’s director general, Dr Cynthia Khumalo, delivered the keynote address, commending the Golekane Mentorship Camp for building confidence, teamwork and leadership in the boys.
