Amanzimtoti model earns national colours

Jan Strydom hopes his journey will inspire others who feel they are too old to chase new goals or are considering giving up on long-held dreams.

AMANZIMTOTI model and performer Jan Strydom flew the country’s flag high recently when he earned a silver award at the recent Stars of the Universe International Cup, a virtual international modelling event that drew competitors from 20 countries.

Strydom, who represented South Africa in modelling and dance, received his national colours for dance after delivering a hip-hop routine during the competition.

“I did a hip-hop number for the competition. Last year, I won three gold medals in the same competition for modelling and received my national colours too,” said Strydom.

He said receiving national colours in dance and modelling has reinforced his belief that dedication and hard work can open doors at any stage of life.

Beyond the performing arts, Strydom has also been pursuing academic and professional growth. Last year, he completed a certificate in occupational health and safety through the University of Cape Town and registered as a technician with the South African Institute of Occupational Safety and Health.

“This is another passion of mine that I would like to pursue,” he said.

“Life is short, and we must live it. I am always trying new things and pursuing my aspirations,” he said.

He extended his gratitude to those who have supported him along the way, including his dance instructors, Nicola Moolman from Talent Africa, for her assistance, and everyone at the Federation of Performing Arts South Africa.
