The Duncan Centre for Life Skills Development, a non-profit learning centre, shared its current and upcoming developments and projects.

THE Duncan Centre for Life Skills Development continues to grow as a specialised, inclusive space where neurodivergent teenagers and vulnerable young adults can thrive, recently introducing a charity shop while working towards plans for a student-run coffee shop and property services initiative.

According to Ettiënne Frost, one of the founders of the centre, which is a non-profit organisation, the projects are aimed squarely at providing much-needed real-world experience for its students, fostering purpose, dignity and participation within their community.

“For many families, finding an environment that truly understands neurodivergence can be challenging. We founded the centre on the belief that ability matters more than labels. This is why we focus on helping young people discover their strengths while developing practical life skills often overlooked in traditional education,” said Frost.

Alongside its projects, the centre has made strides in inclusive early childhood development for both neurodivergent and neurotypical children with the launch of The Duncan Den Daycare. The day care aims to give younger children a strong developmental start.

“The centre continues to expand its learning opportunities through hands-on, enterprise-based initiatives designed to prepare students for meaningful adult life. Beyond education, we hope to represent something deeper, belonging. Families frequently describe it as a place where their children are finally understood and where growth happens naturally,” stated Frost proudly.

Being an NPO, the centre relies heavily on community support to both sustain and expand its programmes. Frost explained that sponsorships, donations, partnerships and enrolments all play a crucial role in ensuring more young people can access vital skills development opportunities.

Community members who wish to support the initiative are encouraged to contact the centre on 062 002 1896, email reception@theduncancentre.co.za or visit the centre, situated at 16 Murray Smith Road, Winklespruit.
