Amanzimtoti artists’ beautiful brushstrokes and abstract art
Local artists sat in silence as they learnt a new technique from a tenured fellow artist at the Totally Art Club's monthly meeting.
CLASS was in session as Totally Art Club members silently listened and learned as experienced artist, Ritha Fenske, taught them about an art technique called the “Neurographical line,” on April 18 during the club’s monthly meeting.

The technique involves opening one’s mind and involves line-work which criss-crosses the canvas. The lines, as Fenske explained, are meant to come from within, for the artist, and its curvature, length and which end it starts and ends depends entirely on artist feeling. The word refers to the nervous system.

Ritha explained that her art style is quiet and not loud. She began to take art more seriously after she retired in 2002 and loves spending time with art-minded people, watching them create.

She advised fellow artists to allow themselves enough time to learn, both about their own art as well as all the great artists whose art inspired generations.
World Art Day
The club’s meeting followed World Art Day which was ceebrated on April 15. The day honours the birthday of Leonardo da Vinci, one of history’s most beloved artists.
Chairperson Patricia McCann’s monthly challenge inspired members to step boldly into the expressive world of Russian artist, Wassily Kandinsky, who is known for his vibrant colours and abstract forms. A mural wall of 10 of the participants made for a striking show of talent.
The theme for the month was bridges, churches and statues in monotone, which inspired members to express themselves in different styles, media and interpretations, from bold contrasts to soft, subtle tones.
