Hundreds of handcrafted items donated to knitting project
The community has been hard at work knitting loads of blankets, beanies, scarves and bed socks to spread warmth this winter.
A MASSIVE consignment of beautifully knitted and crocheted items was dropped off last week, showcasing the incredible generosity and dedication of local residents.
Residents from Jabulani Old Age Home in Amanzimtoti have been hard at work, producing an impressive collection of 19 blankets, 93 adult beanies, 37 scarves and 64 pairs of adult bed socks.
These latest contributions bring the overall tally to 75 completed blankets, 157 beanies and 91 pairs of adult bed socks.

In addition, five pairs of gloves have been donated, while children’s beanies now stand at 120 and children’s bed socks at nine. A further 324 blocks are ready to be sewn together into more blankets.
“Just like last year with the Caxton Cares Square by Square Project, this year has been absolutely phenomenal,” said South Coast/Southlands SUN editor, Roelien D’Amico.
“The community has been so generous and supportive. I know that those who receive these donations will truly appreciate every item. Thank you, thank you, thank you.”
The closing date for the project is on May 15. Every item collected will go directly to someone in need, ensuring they face the winter season with a little more warmth and dignity.
Donations can be dropped off at The Mudpie Co, 771 Marine Drive, The Bluff, or at the South Coast/ Southlands SUN office, 33 Main Road, Amanzimtoti.

Let’s continue to come together as a community and make this winter a little warmer for those who need it most.
