Charity announced for Durban Spar Women’s 10/5km Challenge
iThemba Lethu was officially unveiled as the charity for the upcoming Durban Spar Women's 10/5km Challenge.
THIS year’s official charity beneficiary of the upcoming Durban SPAR Women’s 10/5km Challenge is iThemba Lethu, a Manor Gardens-based non-profit organisation which services the greater Cato Manor community.
More about the charity
iThemba Lethu, which began 25 years ago, cares for vulnerable children affected by poverty, crime and gender-based violence. Their priority is the future of children, transforming hardships into tales of hope.
Publicist, Sophie Thompson, explained that the NPO has three proactive programmes and each concentrates on a different facet of its overarching mission.

“The first programme, ‘Destiny for Youth’, concentrates on life preparation, leadership and literacy for young people in Grades 4 – 12. Its second programme is ‘Transition Home’ where iThemba Lethu cares for 12 abandoned and vulnerable little ones from newborn to three-year-olds. Their third was pioneered decades ago and is the Cato Manor community’s first ‘Breastmilk Bank’. There are few natural resources more important to human immunity and health than breastmilk. In partnership with Department of Health they collect and supply this vital resource,” explained Thompson.
The Durban SPAR Women’s 10 / 5km Challenge takes place on June 28 and starts at the Hollywoodbets Kings Park Stadium. From each entry, R5 will be donated to this impactful local charity which is quietly changing little lives.
