Hardenberg was born in Amanzimtoti on February 27, 1945, and spent his life in the community where he was born, serving passionately.

He attended Warner Beach Primary School before moving up to Kingsway High School, where he was a proud learner and served as the deputy head boy.

His connection to Kingsway High School remained strong throughout his life, serving as chairperson of the old learners’ association and later as chairperson of the school governing body for many years.

Even after stepping down from these roles, he continued to serve generously, sharing his experience and leadership. He was also actively involved in child welfare and Toti’s publicity, always striving to enhance the beauty of Amanzimtoti and the community’s well-being.

Hardenberg had a vibrant spirit and a love for life. He took part in the first Scottburgh to Brighton Beach run, 46.5km along the KZN coast. His participation in this race was a great delight for him, and he completed 20 races.

He was also a volunteer lifesaver, assisting where he could. In the early 1970s, he was actively involved in outreach work and was part of a worship band where he wrote the lyrics of all the songs performed. In his spare time, he wrote poetry, which was shared with his family.

Hardenberg first became involved in the property industry in the early 1980s. His partnership in Amanzimtoti Estates was very rewarding. The company rebranded to Huizemark, and he then moved premises, with that bringing a name change to Toti Property.

Dedicated staff member and close friend, Eugene Ahlers, will carry the torch of Hardenberg’s legacy by absorbing his portfolios and management of his buildings under Skye Management.
