“The City wishes to reassure residents that comprehensive safety and security measures remain firmly in place across eThekwini. Law enforcement officers remain on high alert and are fully prepared to respond swiftly to any incident that may threaten public safety, public infrastructure, or the uninterrupted functioning of the city,” read the statement.
Metro police is working closely with police and other law enforcement agencies to maintain visible presence throughout eThekwini, including townships, business districts, major transport routes and other strategic locations.
On June 25, key law enforcement stakeholders met with representatives of March and March to discuss and agree on appropriate safety and security measures.
“During these engagements, alternative starting and ending points were proposed to facilitate the march while minimising potential safety risks. The municipality notes that these proposals were declined by the organisers. Following further assessment, the organisers’ proposed alternative endpoint was also found to present significant safety and security risks,” read the statement.
Residents are encouraged to remain calm, vigilant and continue with their daily activities as normal.
Members of the public are also urged to report any suspicious or unlawful activities that may pose a threat to public safety.
