Response officer on the road to recovery after Illovo shooting
Amanzimtoti community members stood in solidarity with a response officer who was shot while attending to an alarm activation in Illovo.
FOLLOWING his shocking, yet awe-inspiring survival story, Xolise Jebe, an ET Rapid Response officer who was shot in the side of the head as he arrived on scene to an alarm activation in Illovo on July 6, received an outpouring of support from the community in the form of a “Get well soon” hamper.

Tony Lokker, of ET Rapid Response, explained that when responding to the alarm, multiple suspects opened fire on Jebe’s vehicle, resulting in him sustaining a shot to the side of the head. In spite of his injury, Jebe contacted emergency services and made his way to a nearby hospital.
“It is with great pleasure that we can report that Xolise is doing well and that all indications are that he will make a full recovery,” said Lokker.
Community members rallied together in appreciation of Jebe’s bravery and commitment, putting together a pick-me-up hamper, which was dropped off at ET’s offices on July 9 before Jebe’s colleagues dropped it off at St Augustine’s Hospital. Among the donors were children from Operation Bobbi Bear, who dug into their cupboards as soon as they heard about what happened to Jebe, to donate.
“We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Amanzimtoti community, the staff at ET and Operation Bobbi Bear for your overwhelming love, support, prayers and speedy recovery messages, as well as the generous hamper contributions. Knowing that so many people are standing with us and keeping Xolise in their thoughts and prayers means more than words can express,” read a message of thanks from Jebe’s family.
