EDITOR – Among other things, the published mandate of our Public Protector states “…to strengthen constitutional democracy by investigating and redressing improper and prejudicial conduct, maladminstration and abuse of power in state affairs…”
How then does one explain the fact that the ANC government has taken its own public protector to court, in an attempt to silence her on the Nkandla affair?
How does one explain such barefaced action, completely disregarding the tenets of civilised government? What about ordinary citizens who have an entrenched right to decent government?
The explanation surely lies in the fact that once rot has set in, there is no way of reversing decline. Bearing in mind that the Nkandla issue is merely the tip of a gigantic iceberg, one can expect such crude conduct, and disregard, to continue. The pundits say the ANC will win the elections next year, by a comfortable margin. What a tragedy for what was once Africa’s most advanced country.
