Leaders shouldn’t incite violence

I feel that our leaders should put a stop this, as it can only cause needless bloodshed.

EDITOR – With reference to Jeff van Belkum’s letter in last week’s – South Coast Sun.
Through the medium of your newspaper, I would like to express my opinion on his letter.
While freedom of expression is enshrined in our constitution, it does no mean that we have the liberty to abuse such freedoms, as the leaders of our country are in the habit of doing, by singing inciteful songs at meetings and so on to incite others to commit acts of violence against those of us who are of European/British descent.
Such acts are irresponsible on the part of our leaders, and can lead to acts of homicide or ethnic cleansing, a euphemism for genocide. Already we have seen this taking place in our farming community.
If this were to happen in our country, would any world organisation be prepared to assist those of us who are of European/British descent?
We just have to consider their track record to know that they wouldn’t be prepared to lift a finger to assist us – we would be on our own.
What happened in Rwanda in 1994 was shocking and appalling.
The UN did nothing to stop the violence before it was allowed to get out of hand.
One tribe committed an act of ethnic cleansing on the other tribe. If these people can do that to their fellow Africans what would they do to people of a completely different ethnic group?
This was a result of tribalism, which says my tribe right or wrong, that is not true patriotism to one’s tribe or ethnic group.
I feel that our leaders should put a stop this, as it can only cause needless bloodshed.
I would like to see our leaders implement the high ideals that Nelson Mandela had when he was president of our country.
