* THE PLANNED expropriation of a time share flat block on Amanzimtoti’s beachfront for the development of the Pipeline Beach has been scrapped.
At an emergency beach meeting in Pietermaritzburg recently, the province stated there was no money available for beachfront expropriation. As a consequence, the planned expropriation of the R5-million Savanah Sands time share block will not go ahead, nor will the expropriation of three adjoining properties.

* THERE were raised eyebrows all around at the recent U10 cricket match between Doonheights and Amanzimtoti primary schools when the 12th man for the Doonheights team turned out to be a girl.
But to standard four pupil, Megan Proctor there’s nothing odd about being the only girl on the team. “I’ ve always been a bit of a tomboy and I’ve never liked soft games like netball,’’ she said. “I enjoy rough games and don’t like wearing dresses.”

* HARD-HITTING schoolboy, Douglas Wibberley gave it his all during last week’s cricket practise at Umbogintwini Primary School, hitting the ball right over the school fence, onto the freeway and through the windscreen of a passing bus.
But his record-breaking shot nearly caused an ugly incident when an angry mob of people swarmed off the bus and up the bank towards the school grounds.

* THE OVERHEAD bridge and freeway section of the new Prospecton interchange will be ready for the Easter holiday crowds.
Resident engineer of Jeffares and Green, GB Price said the bridge was halfway to completion at present and the other half of the bridge and the freeway below should be completed before the Easter holidays.
This will mean both the northbound and southbound carriageways will follow their normal course and will be opened to traffic.

* MANY parents are by now well aware of the numerous immediate advantages of sending a child to pre-primary school.
According to Maureen Thompson, principal of Moyeni Pre-Primary School in Athlone Park, these include helping the child to make a happy transition from home to school life, teaching a child to express their needs to different adults and play co-operatively with other children, as well as laying a solid foundation for later learning.
