Beware of being sidetracked from real issues

In any event, given the circumstances, such a venture would be unconstitutional and unlawful.

EDITOR – Declarations by George Lithgow et al, published in the Sun of 8 April, serve to confirm the need for caution.

The ‘smokescreen’ I refer to in my previous letter, just got bigger.

Analysis of the comment reveals that this is nothing other than a community ‘snow job’.

By sheer coincidence, former ‘struggle’ journalist Max du Preez has just published an article on the ANC’s strategy known as “Dezinformatsiya”, a word apparently originally coined by the former KGB. Quite aptly, Du Preez warns: “Editors and readers/listeners/viewers should be on their guard in the days ahead not to become victims of dezinformatsiya and have their attention directed away from the real issues.”

I note that Mr Lithgow, in his capacity as chairman of the CCPO, has had breakfast with the Minister of Police and discussed the CCPO’s “unique crime prevention strategies and initiatives”.

Apparently, “the two main topics were the illegal car guards and prostitution situation.” Unique indeed.

How stupid we all are. Obviously our concerns about murder, robbery, hijacking, home invasion and widespread anarchy are misplaced.

Perhaps the CCPO has lost its way? Chairman Lithgow is now feverishly promoting what is known as a Special Rating Area (SRA), which just one week ago was touted as the Urban Improvement Precinct (UIP). I note that “George Lithgow, who is driving the project, will meet with authorities on 22 April with a general public meeting scheduled for the end of April.” By what authority one wonders?

In any event, given the circumstances, such a venture would be unconstitutional and unlawful.

It is obviously unintended, but Lithgow and comrades have shown that full self-autonomy is possible and practicable. The concept is after all enshrined in the Constitution.
