EDITOR – We have recently relocated to Umkomaas from the Drakensberg.
Firstly, what a pleasant surprise, as it was our first time to the town, although we had stayed in Amanzimtoti for a year.
The folk are very friendly and helpful, and the municipality is doing a sterling job with the upkeep and cleanliness of the town and surrounding areas. Well done guys and girls.
Secondly, onto my comment. We live on Reynolds Street and we have two biting problems.
There has only been one street light working since we arrived three months ago. The illumination at night is terrible.
My major concern is the ‘boy racers’ who seem to think that the road is a racing track late at night. One can actually hear them approaching from either side long before they are visible. The over-revving and wheel spinning and ludicrous speeds are one day bound to result in a serious accident or at worse a fatality in this ‘little haven’.
Is there no way that speed bumps can be installed to deter these speedsters from practising their unlawful actions?
Possibly local law enforcement could intervene?
I am not complaining unnecessarily as, after speaking to other residents in the area, the concern is more than just that of ours. We already have been witness to a serious accident on the corner of Reynolds and Harvey streets.
Hoping that this will be published and be brought to the attention of the powers that be.
