Toti’s Shova cyclists to bet on their finish time
The Race makes use of a large portion of the Comrades Marathon route.
ALMOST 30 Toti Cycle Club ‘roadies’ will be taking up the challenge of participating in the annual Amashovashova Cycle Race this coming Sunday, 13 October.
THE ‘Shova’ starts outside the Pietermaritzburg City Hall on Sunday morning, and finishes at the iconic Moses Mabhida Stadium some 106kms later.
The race makes use of a large portion of the Comrades Marathon route, with a few extra loops thrown in for good measure.
Each of the Toti competitors have their own personal goals for the race.
‘Racers”, such as Jannie Els will be trying for age group podiums and an average speed of around 40 km per hour. Others will be happy to make it to the finish with a five hour time and an average speed of around 20 km per hour. The beauty of the sport is that each rider will have their own challenge to meet, and be able to enjoy this wonderful event in the company of their friends.
Once the members have arrived at the finish, they can swop war stories and enjoy a cold one at the club gazebo, located in the hospitality area at the finish. Members are reminded to mail their times to atoticycle@mweb.co.za after the race.
The club will be running the ‘Shova schwindle’ once again this year -mail your predicted race time to the above address by noon on Friday, 11 October. The member who finishes closest to their predicted time wins a R150 voucher.
