Karen takes Key West, US race by storm

THE PDAC 25km race was well supported by Toti Athletics Club athletes at the weekend.
It was an early start with the Quantum leaving Lords at 4am sharp to take the athletes to the start at Waterfall Park, where some 1,500 athletes took off from.
The runners had a 6km gradual climb into Hillcrest and then some big down hills into Kloof and equally big climbs into Pinetown.
Chris Stange was the first Toti runner home in a time of 1:39 and Suzette Linded first local woman in a time of 2:03.
Irene Bohmer was the first walker home in the Kearsney Striders 10km walk. The club will be in support at Sunday’s Sparksport 32km and 16km run. Call Anita on 084-254-2468 for race information.
Karen Sabrino did the Key West Half Marathon in Florida, USA, which she said was fantastic. She finished in 1:30:25 and came third among the women and 25th overall.
Toti AC members are reminded that the orange club vest and black shrts must be worn when participating in races.
The 2014 licences can be purchased on Wednesdays at Lords at 5pm. Club vests are also available. All athletes are reminded to register their personal information at www.asa.saclubs.co.za. Note this is not the club’s responsibility.
New 2014 licence numbers are to be displayed on the front and back of the vest, with age tags on the front.
Toti AC juniors track and field training is at Lords at 4.45pm Mondays to Fridays. Call Riaan on 078-457-1936.

Time trials over 8km and 4km take place on Wednesdays at Lords at 6pm. On Saturdays there is an 11km run at 6am. For the Saturday club long run at 5am, runners must wear club vests and black shorts for visibility.

The club appeals to all members who are purchasing new running shoes and gear to donate their old kit to the club, which will distribute these to needy members who require them.
The weekly time trial is on Wednesdays from Lords, 8km for the walkers starting at 5.30am, and runners (4km and 8km) starting at 6pm. On Saturdays there is an 11km run or walk from Lords at 5.30am for walkers and 6am for runners.

Athletes book berths for ASA champs
TOTI AC’s athletes gave a good account of themselves at the third track and field league meeting held this past weekend.
Two club athletes ran ASA qualifying times, which booked their ticket into the 2013 ASA sub-youth, youth and junior championships to be held in April.
Lee-Anne Blake continued her rich form by qualifying for both the 800m and 1,500m for sub-youth girls. It is the second week in a row that she has run the qualification standards for both events.
Her times on Saturday (2:16.46 for 800m and 4:53.14 for 1,500m) were accomplished in vey hot and windy conditions which testified to good conditioning this early in the season.
Lisha van Onselen also qualified for the ASA champs, by winning the girls youth 3,000m race on Friday evening in a time of 10:34.63. Lisha also won the youth girls 1,500m in 4:57.84.
