‘Team Greg’ wins potato trips

GREG McLeod with team-mates Alec and Nicky Stirzaker waged a successful six-week campaign to win Toti Bowling Club’s potato trips competition.
Doug and Lyn Joubert and Alan Smith took second place, while Dave Gardiner, Noreen Butler and Paul Steele took the third prize.
Winners of the B-plate were Trvor Dempsey, Val de Kok and Vera Broskie. ‘Most bowls’ went to Frank Quinn with Alan and Linda McGregor.
The six session prizes were won by the teams of Mervyn Conway, Liz Morgan-Davies and Adriane Robbins; Barry Simpson, Dave Kemp and Jacqui Fouché; Jeff and Margaret van Belkum and Neil Wiggill; Denis and Gladys Hughes and Robbie Roberts; Mike Groom, Neville Roscoe and Jeanne Alexander and lastly Don Saunders, Bobby Stewart and Peter Shepard. The club’s thanks go to Paul Beltramo for donating the potatoes; Jackie Holdrick for sponsoring prizes and to Talla and Leslie for all their work in the kitchen.
In the men’s inter-club league games played at Toti this weekend, Toti first division lost to Westville 2-5; Toti second division won against Durban 7-0; Toti third division lost to Durban 0-7; Toti fifth division lost to Park Hill 2-3; Toti sixth division ‘E’ beat Toti ‘F’ 3-2; and in the eighth division Toti lost to Park Hill 2-3.
Noreen Butler secured a win against Talla Viviers in the women’s open singles. However Noreen and her partner Vera Broskie were unable to beat Doreen Salmond and Leonie Mills in the women’s drawn pairs.
In the same competition Julie Sutherland and Jacqui Fouché won against Mardi Dovale and Christine Darley.
The first leg of the men’s drawn pairs was played this weekend with the following results: Ian Crouch and Kokkie de Kock beat Les John and Barry Buckland; Gustav Somers and Peter Barnes won against Alf Bingham and Steve Anderson; Clive Frank and Dave Kemp lost to Andrew Walker and Neil Wiggill; Ian Mills and Trevor Dempsey were defeated by Doug Joubert and Jeff van Belkum; Coy Schrauwen and Boet Els beat Herbie Hoffman and Shawn Sutherland; Mike Groom and Ken Leach won against Don Saunders and Bobby Henderson; and lastly, Glen Scorgie and Dave McMillan lost to Ian Shearer and Mike Pitchers.
The women’s open singles draw is on the board, as are entry lists for nominated pairs, senior singles, handicap singles and novice singles.
Good bowling to the women playing in the inter-districts tournament, representing Port Natal – Barbara Beamson and Doreen Salmond for the senior side in Pretoria and Elsie Walker for the B side in East London, from 10 to 14 March.
Members are reminded that TGIF starts again this Friday, with the attendance draw at R450, so make sure you are there to stand a chance of winning one of the prizes.
This week’s birthday greetings go to Peter Snyman, Leonie Mills and Hennie van der Poel, and any members who are not in the best of health are wished a speedy recovery.
