Toti United FC in desperate need of parental support

If anyone is interested in helping in any way, make contact with the club.

THE SAFA eThekwini football region is set to kick off with league games starting during the course of the first week of April.

Soccer training will commence at Hutchison Park on Tuesday, 11 March at 5pm so encourage friends and family to get their boys and girls geared up and ready to represent Toti United.

Last year the club packed the main civic centre hall to the rafters for the prize-giving, with a staggering attendance in excess of 500 people which is indicative of the club’s strength – but where is the support for the infrastructure?

There is a serious shortage of representation on the committee as well as team moms and dads who are willing to assist with coaching. They are urged to put their hands up and give Shane O’Brien a call on 072-888-0110072-888-0110.

It does not bode well for a club when you have such a huge player base and not enough support structure from the attending parents, many of whom are in a position to assist but just need a little encouragement or persuasion. Perhaps they are not aware of the critical crossroads that the club is about to face come the end of this year. Currently the club has a handful of dedicated parents who undertake dual tasks of standing on the committee, being team moms and coaching teams which does take its toll during the course of the season.

If anyone is interested in helping in any way, make contact with the club because they need your assistance with the mammoth task ahead, especially with the chairman, Dean Carson, preparing to stand down in a few weeks. Dean started off the club and has been instrumental over the past five years along with his wife, Phillipa, in building it up to its current status but now they need your support to take the club to the next level and carry it through the next five years and beyond.

This will be Phillipa’s last year so the club is looking for two women to assume her role in a training capacity, so that there will be a smooth transition to the club’s administration in the years to come. Phillipa is the engine room of the club and to put it bluntly, there will be no club if moms do not come forward and fulfil her position.

So there you have it, the handful of dedicated parents on the committee is asking for your support to ensure that the juniors club grows and that soccer is kept alive for the little ones who enjoy it so much. There is a clear and present danger that if we do not garner support from the parents to assist on the committee, chip in as team moms and coaches, that the club could implode which would be a tragedy, leaving over 200 boys and girls stranded on the sidelines.

An important note for registrations and re-registration is that even if children are busy with other sports, they must still register.

On Saturday, 8 March at Toti United top field stoep from 8am until 10am. Only U13 and U15 need to register with full forms and certified documents.

U6 to U12s only need to complete Toti United forms and must have a photo.

Training will commence on Tuesday, 11 March from 5pm to 6pm at Hutchison Park.

Close of registrations is on Thursday, 27 March. Note this date will not be extended.
