Cardinals bow out to Super Kings in knock out finals
Desaunois in the second inning supplied the early offence for Super Kings.
ON Sunday, Cardinals promo side played in the knock out final at Hoy Park with the first game being against Hillary.
Cardinals survived a Hillary rally, escaping with 8-7 victory
Hillary was never able to get over the hump and overcome its troubles against Cardinals on Sunday, after falling behind by eight runs in the third inning. However in the fourth inning, Hillary scored seven runs on two errors and a fielder’s choice but unfortunately weren’t able to take back the lead.
Melanie Baker got on base three times in the game for the Cardinals. Kyle Gardner got the win for the Cardinals, allowing three runs over three innings. Kyle Gardner struck out five, walked five and gave up one hit.
Matthew Fuller took the loss for Hillary. He lasted just two innings, walked three, struck out two, and allowed two runs.
The game’s last lead went to the Cardinals, thanks to a first inning rally that saw one run cross the plate on an RBI single by Craig Dempsey.
Cardinals were lucky to win after a tragic fourth innings on the field with a circus of errors which resembled an U9 side, however a win is a win and this put them into the final versus Super Kings, who beat Orioles’ experts to secure their place.
The Cardinals team gathered what energy they had left and took the field to try and overcome the team that has rattled them all season.
Spirits where high but Super Kings offence was too much for Cardinals, who lost 11-2.
Super Kings jumped out to an early lead on Cardinals and captured seven runs in the first three innings, allowing Super Kings to put the game away early.
An RBI single by Craig Hall during the first inning and a two-run double by Patrick Marescia and an RBI single by Dion Desaunois in the second inning supplied the early offence for Super Kings.
Craig Hall had two extra-base hits for Super Kings.
Patrick got the win in relief for Super Kings, by pitching two innings and allowing one run.
Super Kings’ Keith Singe, Dion Desaunois, Patrick and Craig Hall combined for 11 hits and eight RBIs.
Melanie Baker took the loss for the Cardinals. She allowed 10 runs in five innings, walked two and struck out two.
It was a hard day at the office for Melanie and the errors did not help things. She was eventually relieved by Robbie Dos Santos on the mound, who pitched a great frame to hold the score down, getting two crucial strike-outs which gave Cardinals a final chance at bat. However the ask was to much as 10 runs were needed to secure the win. Mare of the match went to Kyle Gardner for the comedy of errors in the first game against Hillary, which was a shame as he had great day on the mound. Man of the match went to Ray Merrick for overall good batting performance.
A final reminder to all players that all outstanding subs are overdue and need to be sorted as soon as possible.
