A COUPLE of Run Walk For Life (RWFL) members and friends went to Chatsworth Stadium on Saturday, 6 September to support the local disability run in order to raise funds for local charities.
There were team and individual events. In the individual event, Lizette Botha (RWFL) came first, Val Opperman (RWFL) second and Carol Janssens Raasch (Toti AC) third, an all Toti affair.
In the relay, three members in a team had to do 4km run, once again the Toti women came to the party winning their event. The men also participated, well done to Warren, Matthys and Edmund.
On Sunday, 14 September, a group ran from Scottburgh to Toti, about 32km in preparation for the South Coast Marathon. Looking at their performances, they will not have a problem qualifying for next year’s Comrades.
Those that have not tried the park run are encouraged to do so, at no cost. Log on to www.parkrun.co.za to register.
Lizette is still on track with her training, the club thanks members who support and train with her. She will continue to raise funds for brave cancer patient, Emma (who is doing well after her treatment, but still have a long way to go) by running this coming weekend, 19 and 20 September, the 100 miler (161km) 24-hour circuit race in Pietermaritzburg, where some members will join in on Saturday morning to run the 50 mile and 20 mile races, after which she and some of her fellow training buddies will only take an hour’s rest from Pietermaritzburg to Toti, where she will complete her quest by completing the balance, some 10 hours (+-70 km) at the CANSA relay at Kingsway High School. RWFL has five teams, 10 members per team entered in the relay. Put your name down, the public is welcome to join in, it’s not a race, but a fun event to honour those living, have died or are cancer survivors.
