RWFL members conquer gruelling Mineshaft hills

As the name Mineshaft suggests this is a race where the old saying “what goes up must come down” is really brought to life.

THIS past Sunday saw a large contingent of Amanzimtoti Run Walk for Life (RWFL) members travel to Queensburgh for the annual Queensburgh Harriers Minshaft 15km.

As the name Mineshaft suggests, this is a race where the old saying “what goes up must come down” is really brought to life.

A very hard and hilly course saw the runners wind their way through Queensburgh and Malvern, up and down some seriously tough roads. First member home in a very respectable time of 1.08 was Warren Gibson. Next in were Shaun Fynn and Edmond Louiz with the same time of 1.16. The first Toti RWFL woman home was Giselle Hall with 1.33. Next was Elizabeth Toerien in 1.37. Nelly James and first-time 15km runner Janine Williams were next home in 1.40. Maweza Msane was close behind in 1.42 and the two super walkers, Matthys Nawrattel and Reg Groves were done in 2.04.

Huge thanks must go to Sonez Barnard and her Cowies Hill branch of RWFL for the fantastic catering provided for all members at their gazebo.

RWFL is for people of all ages and fitness levels who would like to get fit and lose weight or improve their health. They meet every Monday, Wednesday and Thursday evening from 5pm to 6pm at Amanzimtoti High School's grounds. Call Janine or Lee Williams on 073-271-1514.
