Naicker clinches UGC’s first monthly medal of 2015

Both UGC's PG 'boys' have done the club proud and both fully deserve support from the home front.

FIRSTLY, Umkomaas Golf Club wishes all its members, friends and visitors all the very best in the New Year – may 2015 be every good year for everyone.

Secondly how great it was to see Tim Clark and his young family at the club over December.

The club wishes him the best of luck for his 2015 tournaments, and the same goes for Garth Mulroy as he goes forward into the coming year. Both UGC’s PG ‘boys’ have done the club proud and both fully deserve support from the home front.

Wednesday was slightly different to the norm since a 4BBB competition was played. It was nice to see Hans Beuthe back from his sojourn in Europe. The club welcomed visitors Neil de Villiers, Deon Spear and Dwayne Morsner to the competition which was won by Rob Mathias and Neil de Villiers on 46 points, followed by Lesa and Keith Vergottini on 45 points. Jim Spear and his son, Deon took third spot with 43 points, counting Barrie Taylor and son-in-law Rob Riley into fourth place.

Saturday, being the first one of the month and year, was the monthly medal played under extremely humid conditions Congratulations to all who played and braved the hot weather. The winner in the A division was Deon Naicker on a brilliant 65, followed very closely by Nelson Moonsamy on 6l.

The B division was a closely contested tussle with Wally Kent winning by the smallest of margins on 70. Tom Naicker took second spot on 71. The C division was a walk-over by Simon van den Bosch on a magnificent score of 66. John Gillett was six shots of f the pace in second place with a 72.

There weren’t too many women playing in their competition this month, but the winner on 72 was Sabiha Bacaus with Michelle van der Merwe in second spot with a 74. Lesa Vergottini won the least putts with 28 putts.

The jackpot was won by Sabiha Bacaus on her own with 11 points. The hidden birdie was shared between Jacques Hulley and Deon Naicker, both acing it on the long par five eighth hole. Unfortunately, Jacques had already left the club when his name was drawn for the attendance draw so that will be carried over to next week.
