Curbing population growth is only solution

He then goes on to say that Cllr Beetge's reluctance to 'meet the preachers' is indicative that Beetge believes there is no 'final solution' (bad terminology Mr Horn).

EDITOR – Frank Horn’s letter referring to Councillor Beetge’s a week earlier, regarding the latter’s comments ‘Yes we cannot” dealing with prostitutes, beggars and homeless children refers.

Horn goes to some length castigating Cllr Beetge for failing to offer any solution to the problem.

I note however that he offers no solution himself. I doubt he has one. He does mention that Cllr Beetge should have initiated a meeting with the ‘religious fraternity’. I assume Horn means the churches of all denominations? Really, would that have helped? I know that some churches do a lot to alleviate suffering as do some NGOs and private individuals, but generally this means just another appeal from the pulpit for more donations from the already long-suffering congregations, many of who have very few spare rands to rub together.

He then goes on to say that Cllr Beetge’s reluctance to ‘meet the preachers’ is indicative that Beetge believes there is no ‘final solution’ (bad terminology Mr Horn). But the good councillor is right, there is no solution and he is also quite correct when he says that population explosion and urbanisation is the problem. As to Horn’s rather puerile suggestion that the councillor vacate his seat as he is not entirely the people’s choice, is humbug. How did he get elected? Because his political party achieved a majority vote in the area. The fact that Cllr Beetge did not enjoy a majority approval of local politicians is perfectly understandable when one appreciates what party the majority belong to.

But back to the population explosion. It should be glaringly apparent that all the earth’s woes are due to too many people. China saw that and did something about it.

Population control, birth control, call it what you will, is the one sure way of creating an environment where our natural resources are not destroyed, our air and water are not polluted and the land can be ‘managed’ to produce the food that a reasonable world population needs. Africa, India and parts of Asia are prime examples of this.

In other parts of the world ignorance, bigotry, religious intolerance, greed, avarice and the lust for power do help in keeping population figures in check, but not enough. It does no good to whitter on about job creation, social justice, welfare and education when there are simply too many people to satisfy. This is glaringly apparent in South Africa where our incompetent, crooked and mindless administration pontificates about the perceived evils of colonialism and apartheid and do-nothing to alleviate our problems. In fact, they exaggerate them with nonsensical labour legislation, and a miscellany of pointless rules and regulations that restrict meaningful investment and co-co-operation from those that count.

Until world governments truly try to alleviate our shared problems, stop their power mongering, war mongering and cease trying to con us about what a great job they are doing, there will be no solution. Of course it will never happen. No government has the guts to tell its people to cease their pointless breeding and to create large incentives for small families with a maximum of two children, and penalise those who fail by giving them no incentives, no welfare such as child grants and so on and no ‘freebies’.

So Mr Horn it should be obvious, even to you now, that Cllr Beetge is right, there is no solution in terms of the current world situation and certainly in terms of the current African situation. And, no Mr Horn, I am not a racist, I am a realist and see things for what they are. Finally Mr Horn, don’t play with words in an effort to further denigrate our councillor – “street children”, “homeless children” does it really matter? The end result is the same – misery, more uneducated, unemployable youth, in short as some union official said recently: “A time bomb waiting to happen”.
