Barflies bowls debuts at ABC

Barflies bowls is a hugely social event.

By 2 Short

ON Sunday, 11 January Barflies bowls made its long-awaited debut at Amanzimtoti Bowling Club (ABC).

With a tremendous response that almost caught the organisers off-guard, 112 players took to the greens with some unfortunately being turned away due to space constraints. It was great to see some Barflies stalwarts from the old Umbogintwini days as well as plenty of newcomers to this wonderful game enjoying a fun-filled morning.

The good news is that Barflies Bowls will now become a regular feature at the club. The next Barflies will be on Sunday, 1 February. Registration is from 8am and the cost for a full morning’s entertainment is R20. Due to the popularity of this day, and judging by the last response, a large crowd is expected so be advised to register early as a strict 'first come, first served' ruling will apply.

Barflies bowls is a hugely social event. Dress is casual (flat shoes) and the emphasis is on fun.

Visitors are welcome as are beginners, who will be lent bowls and given a few pointers. Don’t worry if you have never bowled before, there will be a number of beginners who are helped along by the regular bowlers. Prizes are up for grabs and food will be available. Obviously the bar will be well-stocked to ensure that dehydration is avoided.
