Toti United FC set to shine this seaon

Notice is hereby given of the Toti United FC Juniors AGM on Tuesday, 24 February at 6pm at the Lords and Legends conference room.

WITH summer in full swing and the folly of the silly season behind us, Toti United Football Club is set to shine and rejuvenate junior and senior soccer on the South Coast.

The Amanzimtoti Sports Council is proud to announce that the amalgamation of this exciting news will mean that our children will now be in a position to play soccer from an U6 level right through to the senior division and eventually if the legs hold out play for the renowned and legendary over 35’s team that did exceptionally well last season in the league and were very unfortunate to be narrowly beaten in the cup final.

Toti has been in desperate need of a senior side over the last decade or so and huge interest has been shown in the form of players willing to join. Registration for senior players aged from 18 to 34-years-old will begin on Tuesday, February at 6pm at Hutchison Park on the top field adjacent to the rugby club. Senior players can contact David Keats on 076-822-6062 for details.

This is excellent news for me especially as I recall the hey days of the 80s and 90s when I tried to play for the Toti first side which was a force to be reckoned with, having such great managers like Tommy MacMillan, Lloyd Jones, Peter Bond and Gordon Igesund filling the trophy cabinet with silverware.

Sadly most of what we had has been relegated to memory and the brain cells and heart strings of late have been taking strain when reflecting on all those good times that we had. It is time to bring that back to Toti and I can recall the prestigious South Coast Cup would garner support of up to 3,000 people on the sidelines and now the community at large will be spoilt for choice when supporting local rugby and soccer on Saturday afternoons.

There is a fundraising project on the go to get floodlights installed on the top field along with two hot water geezers that are required for showers in the change rooms and to redo the plumbing that is perennially burgled. Security and alarms are in place to deter the scourge of opportunistic thieving vandals and we are appealing to philanthropists, businesses and the community at large to please come forward and assist with sponsorship. You can call the chairman of the club, Conrad Rubino on 082-465-5012 to set-up a meeting with the committee to discuss the way forward.

Notice is hereby given of the Toti United FC Juniors AGM on Tuesday, 24 February at 6pm at the Lords and Legends conference room. Regret no children.

Registration for junior players, U6 to U15 from last year is on Saturday, 7 March from 9am to 11am on the top field at Hutchison Park. No new players will be registered on this day as Saturday, 14 March has been allocated for new players, pending the outcome of the re-registering of all the players from last year and whether there will be enough coaches to accommodate B and C teams.

The fees are R550 for the year which includes a bag and the soccer club kit for the child to keep. Most importantly is the fact that the juniors committee is desperately appealing to the public for coaches because it would be heartbreaking to tell a boy that he cannot play soccer because we do not have enough coaches.

For further information on the juniors you can contact our longest suffering committee member and world-class secretary, Phillipa Carson on 078-942-2934.

Chirp of the week:

Opposing players are going to need a GPS to get around some of the overweight O35 players this season. Training has already started in earnest to trim those jelly bellies. Over 35 players can contact Mathew Powell on 082-646-0924 for training day information.

Last but certainly by no means least, I am compelled to mention that the legacy of Twini Park FC in Athlone Park will still continue under the management of Justin Fourie as he courageously fights to keep the historic club running, that too produced the best soccer players in KwaZulu Natal back in the day when Roger Boghust, Keith Fraser, Keith Forest and Owen Dawson were in charge. Your passion and commitment down there in Athlone Park is admirable Justin.
