CONGRATULATIONS to Toti Bowling Club’s Doreen Salmond, Jeanne Alexander, Jane Coetzee and Michelle Pitchers on winning bronze in the SA national fours in Port Elizabeth.
Also well done to Jane Coetzee on winning her section in the singles in PE.
The club is also proud of Nan Roos Parker, who is a country member at Toti, together with her partner Nola Dreyer, who won gold in the women’s pairs at nationals.
The first game of the women’s novice singles was a very close one between Lesley Stephens-Viviers and Gaynor Snyman. Lesley started well and Gaynor did not score a shot until the fifth end, and Lesley was 16-8 up in the 17th end. However Gaynor then made her comeback and they were peeled at 18 all in the 23rd end. Gaynor took the three shots to win the game in the 24th end. Well done to both players. Lesley had another close game against Karen Shepherd on Saturday, where the final score went to Karen by four shots. If this is the calibre of bowls from the club’s novices, the future of Toti BC looks good.
In the women’s monthly trips the winners were Heather Brown, Talla Stephens-Viviers and Lys McDonald and the runners-up were Isabel Milne, Sue Welch and Jeanette Els. The second session went to Julie Sutherland, Marie van der Walt and Annatjie Boag.
The winners of the men’s monthly 2-4-2 were Ian Crouch and Lofty van Tonder; and in second place were Robbie Roberts and Shawn Sutherland; and the second session was won by Keith Berry and William Sithole.
Fifteen games of men’s open singles were played this week. Those going through to the last 16 are Robbie Roberts, Peter Labuschagne, Peter Callaghan, Alec Stirzaker, William Sithole, Andy McDonald, Greg McLeod, Don Saunders, Vince Phaal, Trevor Zulch, Ian Crouch, Guelfo Cobianchi, Lofty van Tonder, Mike Pitchers and Doug Joubert. Well done to all.
In the women’s senior singles, Mardi Dovale prevailed against Maggie Robertson. In the women’s open singles, Tokkie de Kock beat Nicky Stirzaker by one shot in the 25th end; and in another close game, Lynn Joubert defeated Marie van der Walt also by one shot in the 23rd end; Robyn Hutton had a strong win against Gaynor Snyman.
Well done to Alec and Nicky Stirzaker who won the Victory Kwikspar mixed 2-4-2; and to runners-up, Ian and Marion Crouch. The first session went to Pete Shepard and Amanda Ninow; and the second session to Peter Callaghan and Robyn Hutton. The continental prize was won by Dennis and Gladys Hughes.
At TGIF, Pete Shepard won the 100 board. There was no winner in the member’s draw as a blank number was drawn so next week’s prize is worth R300. Mike Roberts drew the number in the key draw, but sadly his key did not work. Next week’s key will be worth around R5,000.
In the women’s mutton, the winners were Robyn Hutton, Nicky Stirzaker, Denise Bingham and Leonie Mills; and the runners-up were Liz Morgan-Davies, Lynn Joubert, Tokkie de Kock and Lys McDonald. The first session went to Pam Chalder-Royle, Jenny Delport, Val de Kok and Jackie Holdrick; and the second sessions was won by Julie Sutherland, Nita Meumann, Amanda Ninow and Karen Shepherd.
Andy McDonald, Mervyn Conway, Alex Hoile and Anthony Allard won the men’s mutton with Vince Marriott, Dennis Hughes, Alf Bingham and Mike Roberts in second place. First session was won by Dave Kemp, Ron Greenslade, Peter Snyman and Herman van Zyl; and the second session went to Doug Joubert, Eric Klopper, Bobby Henderson and Martin Birch. Many thanks to Brad Cox for sponsoring this competition, as well as bar and kitchen staff, and Talla and Lesley.
Items are need for the winter table at the women’s fours winter tournament taking place on 11 and 12 June. Clothes in good condition, unwanted bric-a-brac, books and CDs, confectionery or anything you have no further use for, you can give to Liz or Talla. There is still time to enter a team for this popular competition.
Birthday wishes are sent this week to Dean Hunter and Liz Morgan-Davies. Members were saddened to hear of the death of Mollie Maughan, after a long illness. Her sweet and gentle nature will be remembered by all. Condolences are sent to Molly’s family and friends. Get well wishes to all who are not well at the moment.
