A social braai was held after the event with members watching the Springboks vs Argentina game on the big screen to end off the evening.

Earlier in the day, Winkle SLC had two support crews in rescue boats providing cover for the 21km RhoTech Downwind Surfski race from Ansteys beach through to Toti Canoe Club. Gareth Hazell and Demi Mason saw some action at the start at Ansteys due to the low tide and rough surf and had to pull a number of paddlers out of the surf zone along with salvaging a number of broken surfskis – all in a day’s work.

The club is hard at work gearing up for the start of the new season and once again an invite is extended to prospective nippers, juniors and seniors to attend the club open day on 30 August at Winklespruit Beach. An introduction to the sport of surf lifesaving will be provided. Anyone from seven years and upwards can be accommodated and will be introduced into age-group specific events on the day.

Food and refreshments will be available for parents and supporters.
