Greg and Terry to face off in finals
At TGIF Meryl Hambley was not present to win the attendance draw, so the pot rises to R150.
THE spectators on the veranda at Amanzimtoti Bowls Club were treated to a feast of bowls last weekend when three rounds of the men’s 2015 senior singles played out.
In round two, Greg McLeod beat Dave Kemp in a riveting game of two halves, Alec Stirzaker lost to Terry Morgan, Alf Bingham, despite a late comeback, lost to Lofty van Tonder and Barry Bush defeated Kokkie de Kock.
In round three, Lofty van Tonder narrowly lost to Barry Bush, Terry Morgan had a convincing win over Phil Perkins, Dallas Davis lost to Barry Buckland and Adie Fuller lost to Greg McLeod. In the semi-finals, despite being peeled on end 15, Barry Buckland lost to Terry Morgan, and Greg McLeod had a strong win against Barry Bush. The final game being played during the week promises to be a strong contest, so good bowling to both Greg McLeod and Terry Morgan.
The winners of the women’s 2-4-2 this month were Lulu Bingham and Maureen Griffin, with Yvonne Wright and Gaynor Snyman the runners-up. Second session was won by Jane Coetzee and Denise Bingham, and the 100 board by Norma Raath.
Congratulations to the team of Doreen Salmond, Marion Crouch, Nita Meumann and reserve Meryl Hambley (substituting for Adrienne Robbins last week) on their strong wins at the PN fours, which have got them through to the semi-finals on Sunday, 18 October. Good bowling, the club will be thinking of you all.
The team selection for the women’s drawn fours is now on the board. The carded date for the first round had been changed from Thursday, 15 October to Saturday, 17 October to assist working members; however, games may still be played during the week as always, with the consent of the greenkeeper and competition secretary.
Just a reminder that the closing date for entries for the women’s drawn trips is Sunday, 25 October, and that club fees must be paid by 31 October. Ensure that you quote your personal reference number when paying, and if you don’t yet have your invoice, collect it from the barman on duty.
The closing date for the men’s drawn fours has been extended to Sunday, 18 October, so those of you who have not put your names down, why not enter and give it a try? The first round will be played on Saturday, 24 October.
Potjie day will be on Sunday, 1 November, with fun, food and prizes for both potjie cooks and bowlers, so put your names down early to facilitate catering arrangements.

As he was not present a key was drawn for him, but as it wouldn’t open the lock the pot of R10,000 will be a ‘must win’ next week.
The only birthday this week is that of Vince Marriott, so best wishes to him, and to all members and past members who are not in good health.
