Doreen’s team wins ABC drawn fours

CONGRATULATIONS to Doreen Salmond, Jackie Holdrick, Vera Broskie and Adrienne Robbins who beat Pam Chalder-Royle, Elmarie Young, Leonie Mills and Karen Shepard in the final of the women’s drawn fours at Amanzimtoti Bowling Club (ABC).
In the semis of the nominated mixed pairs, Barbara Beamson and Mike Roberts defeated Jeanne Alexander and Dallas Davis by one shot.
In the semi-finals of the men’s drawn pairs, Vince Phaal and Mike Roberts beat Linden Cooper and Alf Bingham; and in the semis of the men’s open singles, Lofty van Tonder got the better of Mike Pitchers.
In the men’s senior singles, Alec Stirzaker beat Boet Els; Terry Morgan overcame Barry Buckland; and Linden Cooper defeated Bobby Henderson. In the men’s nominated pairs, Pete Shepard and Ian Shearer defeated Peter Callaghan and Dallas Davis; Andy McDonald and Ian Mills overcame Linden Cooper and Adie Fuller; and Greg McLeod and Doug Joubert beat Alf Bingham and Trevor Zulch. Andy Jones beat Dean Cooper in the men’s novice singles; and Gary Wise lost to Steve Woor, and then to Martin Birch. Then Steve Woor beat Andy Jones.
In the semis of the women’s handicap singles, Doreen Salmond beat Barbara Beamson in a marathon game of 28 ends. Jackie Holdrick beat Linda McGregor in the women’s senior singles.
In the women’s nominated pairs, Barbara Beamson and Jeanne Alexander defeated Elsie Walker and Leonie Mills; Robyn Hutton and Heather Cooper beat Vera Broskie and Linda McGregor; Nita Meumann and Maggie Robertson won against Lynn Joubert and Michelle Pitchers; and Pam Chalder-Royle and Jenny Delport beat Joan van Rensburg and Jacqui Fouche.
There were winners galore at TGIF. John Hewgill won the 100 board. Dave Kemp won the must-win attendance draw, so this week’s prize reverts to R100. Debbie Groom picked the winning key for Jackie Holdrick, well done. Next week’s key will be worth R1,000.
The lists are on the board for Port Natal men’s and women’s nominated pairs. Good bowling to all in the final game of league on Saturday, 8 July, and also to those who are playing the Dan Draper tournament. Men’s games are carded for Sunday, 9 July, so check the board.
Members were saddened and shocked at the sudden death of Clive Hambley, a popular bowler who had moved to the Cape. Deepest condolences to Meryl and all the family. Good wishes go this week to birthday boys Hannes Danielz, Trevor Zulch, Linden Cooper and George Glaves.
